The story behind the design

Woodland Cottage

Here is a forest that asks nothing of you but that you look. Trees stand in their long red coats, patient as old friends. A river moves through them, not in haste, but with the steady resolve of water that has always known its way. Above, the sun hangs like a great golden coin, paying out its light in careful, generous measures.

At the base of a low hill, worked by time into patterns of earth and stone, opens a den. It is a modest doorway, yet within it lives a kingdom: a vixen, bright as a coal in a night fire, and three small kits who have only just begun to learn the language of leaves and shadows. They sit in the threshold where safety meets the unknown, each one a small question posed to the day.

The forest itself seems to bend around them—a circle of trunks and sky, of cloud and riverbank—as if the world were briefly arranged to guard this little family. The sun leans lower, threading its rays through branches, catching in their fur, striking sparks from the running water. It is an ordinary moment, and so, in the manner of the woods, it is holy.

To bring this scene into your kitchen is to set a fragment of that holiness upon your counter. Chopped herbs, sliced fruit, the daily bread—small acts of living laid out before the fox den, as if the forest were quietly invited to your table. In the steam of a pot or the shine of a knife you may catch, now and then, the sense that the pines are listening, that the river is considering your hurry and finding it unnecessary.

And as you work—preparing a simple meal, assembling a tray for friends, or merely cutting an apple for yourself—you stand, for a time, in fellowship with that vixen and her kits. You are both keepers of dens, both tending to the humble, necessary tasks that make a life. The board beneath your hands is not only glass and color, but a small, clear window into a quieter world, reminding you that the truly essential things are often done slowly, and with care.
